Uralic Ethnic Studies Award and Scientific Research Published In A Uralic Language Award

  1. Objective and content of the awards

1.1. Uralic Ethnic Studies Award and Scientific Research Published In A Uralic Language Award recognise the academic work of kindred Uralic peoples without their own statehood. 

1.2. Uralic Ethnic Studies Award is issued for academic work about Uralic ethnic sciences (literature, linguistics, history, archaeology, ethnology, folklore studies) in any language.

1.2.1. The amount of the award is 1,250 euros. 

1.2.2. The award may be granted either to one researcher or a research group.

1.3. Scientific Research Published In A Uralic Language Award is issued for academic work in any field written in a Uralic language.

1.3.1. The amount of the award is 1,250 euros. 

1.3.2. The award may be granted either to one researcher or a research group.

1.4. Uralic Ethnic Studies Award and Scientific Research Published In A Uralic Language Award are issued every year.

  1. Nominations

2.1. Researcher(s) having published an important monograph, collection or full volume may be nominated for the award.

2.2. Anyone may make nominations.

2.3. The same nominator may nominate several candidates.

2.4. Self-nomination is permitted.

2.5. Information about when nominations open is published on the organiser’s website and communicated via other public channels.

2.6. The nominator must fill out the electronic form and submit the published monograph, collection, or full volume, 1–2 references from a field expert, the candidate’s CV, and list of publications.

2.7. The nomination form may be filled out in Estonian, Russian, or English. 

  1. Determination and announcement of awards

3.1. Laureates of the Uralic Ethnic Studies Award and the Scientific Research Published In A Uralic Language Award are determined by an expert evaluation committee and approved by the Board of the Kindred Peoples’ Programme.

3.2. In the absence of a candidate worthy of the award, the expert evaluation committee reserves the right not to issue the award. 

3.3. Laureates of the Uralic Ethnic Studies Award and the Scientific Research Published In A Uralic Language Award are announced on the Kindred Peoples’ Day (the third Saturday of October).
