Veps-language tours have become popular in Karelia
At the Media Centre for Karelian, Finnish and Vepsian Resources in the Republic of Karelia, it was reported that tours in Veps are becoming increasingly popular.
For example, one of these is held regularly on the shore of Lake Onega in Petrozavodsk, where the centre’s guide, Lyudmila Alexeyeva, talks to students about the city’s history and heritage. The organisers say they are increasingly keen to organise such educational tours, which would also help to better understand the essence as well as the specific features of the language.
However, Vepsän Vezad, the association of young people in Vepsa, would like to broaden the thematic and geographical scope of the tours. Such events would arouse interest in the culture and history of the Veps, the resource centre said.
