New travelling exhibition “13 Finnougrists”

The exhibition is based on material from the 2026 Finno-Ugric calendar.

Finno-Ugric studies is a small but important discipline, the influence of which extends far beyond the boundaries of its own field. The study of Finno-Ugric languages has helped to improve our understanding of linguistic structural diversity, the mechanisms of language change, the significance of language contact and the possibilities for language preservation.

The portraits in the exhibition were created by the Finnish artist Li Taiga. The scholars were selected by the linguist and member of the Fenno-Ugria board, Tõnu Seilenthal. The work of these linguists forms the basis of the tradition of Finno-Ugric studies. It is precisely on the recognition of the kinship between the Finno-Ugric languages that ethnology, folklore studies and other academic disciplines concerning Finno-Ugric-speaking peoples are founded, as well as the tradition of the kinship movement as a form of cultural interaction, which is of great importance to Fenno-Ugria Foundation.

The exhibition consists of a pack containing 13 PVC panels measuring 70 × 100 cm, each fitted with hanging hooks, and is to be installed by the client. The set also includes one display frame, which can be hung from the ceiling. The exhibition texts are in Estonian and English.
