An indigenous ombudsman is created in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Region. Such a proposal was made by the new governor of the region, Ruslan Kuharuk, who said the decision was taken in response to requests from indigenous representatives.

‘Until now, responsibility for decisions concerning the interests of indigenous peoples rested with various departments and agencies. Now, however, the rights and interests of indigenous peoples can be defended in a much simpler and more operational way,’ the governor said.
