Opening of exhibition ‘The Waterfowl People’ in York

On 8 May at 15:00 GMT, Fenno-Ugria will host the opening of the poster exhibition ‘The Waterfowl People’ at the University of York in the UK, based on Lennart Meri’s films about Finno-Ugric peoples. The exhibition will open at the University of York’s Spring Lane Building, Campus West, and will be attended by Madis Arukask, Chairman of the Board of Fenno-Ugria, and Patrick O’Rourke, Project Manager.

The exhibition opens the story behind the making of legendary documentary films about Finno-Ugric peoples (‘The Waterfowl People’, ‘Winds of the Milky Way’, ‘Voices of Kaleva’, etc.) and introduces the cultures of our kindred peoples, based on photographic material taken on the expeditions, with texts written by Enn Säde, a sound director who participated in the expedition.
In order to record the material for the films, repeated expeditions were made to the settlements of the Finno-Ugric peoples between 1969 and 1988, and ethnographers, folklorists, artists and writers took part in the work of the film crew. The accompanying texts were written by Enn Säde, design by Peeter Laurits.
