Kindred People’s Programme calls for nominations for the Uralic Ethnic Studies Award 2024 and for the Scientific Research published in a Uralic Language Award 2024.

The aim of these awards is to recognise the academic works by representatives of kindred Uralic peoples without their own statehood. Awards are given out for a monograph, collection of articles or full volume published in the past four years (2020—2024):

  1. URALIC ETHNIC STUDIES AWARD: for academic work about Uralic ethnic sciences (literature, linguistics, history, archaeology, ethnology, folklore studies) in any language;
  2. SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH PUBLISHED IN A URALIC LANGUAGE AWARD: for academic work in any area written in a Uralic language.

The deadline for submitting nominations is 5 September 2024.

This year, the competition welcomes the works of researchers who are based outside of the Russian Federation. Applications should be submitted electronically. We kindly ask you to familiarise yourself with the statute of the award. Prize fund is 2,500 euros. Laureates of the award will be announced on the Finno-Ugric Day, which this year falls on 19 October 2024.

Kindred People’s Programme is the Estonian government aid programme for supporting the preservation and development of the Uralic (Finno-Ugric and Samoyed) indigenous people languages and cultures with no nation-state.
