The proposed Finno-Ugric flag was designed by Szymon Pawlas in 2008.
Originally the flag of the first Estonian-language student organisation Eesti Üliõpilaste Selts, the flag was designated as the national flag of Estonia on 21 November 1918.
The flag of Finland was officially adopted on 28 May 1918.
The Hungarian tricolour was adopted as the national flag in 1848.
