The aim of the award is to recognise the work of authors or translators of the literature of kindred peoples without their own statehood. The Literary Award<\/a> may be issued to:<\/p>

  1. a writer or a translator for a work of fiction of noteworthy literary and linguistic value published in a kindred people\u2019s language in the past four years (2021\u20142025);<\/li>\n\n
  2. a writer or a translator whose activities have notably helped introduce the literature of kindred peoples without their own statehood in Estonia and at the European level.\u00a0<\/li><\/ol>

    The deadline for submitting nominations is<\/strong> 8 October 2025.<\/strong><\/p>

    Applications should be submitted electronically<\/a>.  We kindly ask you to familiarise yourself with the statute of the award<\/a>. This year, the competition welcomes the works of writers who are based outside of the Russian Federation.<\/p>

    The prize fund is 2,500 euros.\u00a0Laureates of the Literary Award will be announced 1 November 2024, which is the memorial day of the Udmurt writer and public figure\u00a0Kuzebai Gerd\u00a0(1898\u20131937).<\/p>

    Kindred People\u2019s programme is an Estonian state programme aimed at supporting the languages and cultures of Finno-Ugric and Samoyedic indigenous peoples. The programme applies to the Finno-Ugric \u2013 Livonians, Votians, Ludics, Izhorians, Ingrian Finns, Karelians, Vepsians, Saami, Erzyans, Mokshas, Maris, Udmurts, Komis, Khantys, Mansis \u2013 and Samoyedic \u2013 Nenets, Enets, Nganasans and Selkups \u2013 kindred peoples who have their own language and culture but are without their own statehood.<\/p>
