As an event of the main programme of the Tartu2024 Capital of Culture, Fenno-Ugria’s seminar ‘Fate of the Finno-Ugric peoples: its substantiation in culture and political reality’<\/a> took place on 15 June 2024 in Tartu, Estonia.<\/p>

The seminar was opened by Madis Arukask<\/strong>, Chairman of the Board of Fenno-Ugria.<\/p>

The opening lecture was given by T\u00f5nu Seilenthal<\/strong>, ‘We cannot go through without Ugria…’<\/a>, who touched upon the development of Finno-Ugristics in the world and in Estonia, as well as the state of Finno-Ugric cooperation and future prospects in the changed political situation.<\/p>

Artist and lecturer K\u00e4rt Summatavet<\/strong>‘s ‘Hingelk\u00f5nd \u2013 artists at the roots of Finno-Ugric inspiration’ dealt with Finno-Ugric cultures as influences on Estonian artists. The lecture was followed by a panel discussion on ‘Finno-Ugric peoples in Russia: current situation and future prospects’<\/a>, which dealt with the identity of Finno-Ugric peoples living in Russia and Finno-Ugric cooperation. Participants included ethnologist Aimar Ventsel<\/strong>, Fenno-Ugria board members Elena Kirt<\/strong>, T\u00f5nu Seilenthal<\/strong> and board chairman Madis Arukask<\/strong>, adviser Jaak Prozes<\/strong>. The discussion was moderated by Barbi Pilvre<\/strong>, Director of Fenno-Ugria. Recording by Etnomeedia MT\u00dc, Aleksei Aleksejev<\/strong>.<\/p>

This was followed by the presentation of the Fenno-Ugria Yearbook ‘Soome-ugri s\u00f5lmed 2023’<\/a>.<\/p>
