The concept defines the state’s position with regard to the preservation of national languages, the Duma speaker specified. Earlier, the Secretary of the State Security Council, Oleg Khramov, had said that the concept would help prevent further Latinisation of Russian society and allow the preservation of the sovereignty of Russian civilisation. According to Mr Khramov, the West is making efforts to destroy the Russian language, which is one of the basic codes of the nation. The Russian language is increasingly contaminated with foreign words, Latinisms and foreign American jargon, he says. According to Mr Khramov, such ‘pollution’ leads to a deformation of national identity, which results in a false orientation of young people towards a Western lifestyle.<\/p>

In March 2023, the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, signed a law on the state language that regulates the use of foreign words in Russian.<\/p>
