Since 2018, Finno-Ugrian days have also belonged <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cioff.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">to the International Council of Organizations of Folklore Festivals and Folk Arts (CIOFF)<\/a>.<\/p><p>The festival reaches its apex <strong>on the third Saturday of October<\/strong> \u2013 this year on October 15th \u2013 the day that the national flags of Estonia fly in honour of our fellow kindred peoples living all around the world.<\/p><p>The main theme of the 2022 Fenno-Ugrian days is \u201cBridge over times\u201d. The main concerts will take place in Tallinn at the Vaba Lava venue (on Saturday, October 15th) and in Tartu at The Estonian National Museum (on Sunday, October 16th).<\/p><p>The art director of the concerts, <strong>Anne T\u00fcrnpu<\/strong>, said that her idea for the concept of the events was to send a notional letter home. Although, until now, different Fenno-Ugric peoples from different countries have met during the Finno-Ugrian days in Estonia every year, when real meetings are otherwise impossible these precious connections are kept and nurtured through letters. \u201cWe, too, send a letter with our concert, like with the Khanty Bear Funeral Feast, a letter is being written to a heavenly God, Num Torum. We write to our friends and relatives who live in faraway countries and talk about small things, that (regardless of what) connect us both here and there,\u201d says T\u00fcrnpu.<\/p><p>The audience has a chance to see the folklore ensembles of <a href=\"https:\/\/fennougria.ee\/en\/peoples\/maris\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Maris<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/fennougria.ee\/en\/peoples\/udmurts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Udmurts<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/fennougria.ee\/en\/peoples\/mordvins\/erzyans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Erzyans<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/fennougria.ee\/en\/peoples\/mordvins\/mokshas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mokshas<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/fennougria.ee\/en\/peoples\/komis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Komis<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/fennougria.ee\/en\/peoples\/baltic-finnic-peoples\/votians\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Votians<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/fennougria.ee\/en\/peoples\/baltic-finnic-peoples\/ingrians\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ingrians<\/a> that are active in Estonia. An artist, known all over Europe, she has won the most important Swedish culture award <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skap.se\/2020\/06\/25\/skaps-priser-2020\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Skaps Kulturb\u00e4rarpris<\/a> for her songs and compositions. Katarina speaks and sings in the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ume_S\u00e1mi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ume-Sami language<\/a> she learned at her father\u2019s home. This language, which has been enlisted in the UNESCO\u2019s list of critically endangered languages, is spoken by only a small number of people. Folklore and improvisational acts are being performed by singers and folklorists from Udmurtia in cooperation with Mari and Estonian musicians.<\/p><p>This year, the traditional <a href=\"https:\/\/fennougria.ee\/sundmus\/konverents-2022-karjala-margiline-tahendus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Finno-Ugrian Days Conference focuses on Karelia<\/a> (link in Estonian), its peoples, language, and history. Presentations will be given by acclaimed linguists and historians.<\/p><p>As the year 2022 is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.raamatukogudeaasta.ee\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">dedicated to libraries in Estonia<\/a>, books and libraries equally have a place in our programme. On Wednesday, October 19th, <a href=\"https:\/\/fennougria.ee\/en\/discover\/library\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NGO Fenno-Ugria will introduce its library<\/a> over a Finno-Ugric club web live broadcast event with the possibility to borrow books through the ESTER e-catalogue. Followers of this event will learn how to borrow books from the Fenno-Ugria library. <strong>Jaak Prozes<\/strong> and <strong>Andres Heinapuu<\/strong> from Fenno-Ugria will introduce how the library of Fenno-Ugria came into being.<\/p><p>In cooperation with the Estonian public broadcast company, ERR, a rich variety of films and documentaries will be aired on <a href=\"https:\/\/jupiter.err.ee\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jupiter.err.ee<\/a> during the entire Finno-Ugric month.<\/p><p>The list of films can be found on: <a href=\"https:\/\/jupiter.err.ee\/hoimupaevad\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">jupiter.err.ee\/hoimupaevad<\/a>.
