{"id":55246,"date":"2022-05-24T12:05:25","date_gmt":"2022-05-24T09:05:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fennougria.ee\/veneetsia-biennaalil-avati-esmakordselt-saami-paviljon\/"},"modified":"2022-05-24T12:13:50","modified_gmt":"2022-05-24T09:13:50","slug":"the-nordic-pavilion-becomes-the-first-sami-pavilion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fennougria.ee\/en\/the-nordic-pavilion-becomes-the-first-sami-pavilion\/","title":{"rendered":"The Nordic Pavilion Becomes the First S\u00e1mi Pavilion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Artists M\u00e1ret \u00c1nne Sara, Anders Sunna and Pauliina Feodoroff will represent S\u00e1pmi at the 2022 Venice Biennale.<\/p><p>The S\u00e1mi artists <strong>M\u00e1ret \u00c1nne Sara, Anders Sunna<\/strong> and<strong> Pauliina Feodoroff<\/strong> will represent S\u00e1pmi at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.labiennale.org\/en\/art\/2022\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2022 Venice Biennale<\/a>, where they will transform the Nordic pavilion into a S\u00e1mi pavilion. This was revealed at a press conference streamed by the Office for Contemporary Art Norway (OCA) from the S\u00e1mi Parliament in Karasjok this Wednesday. In a press release, OCA describes the S\u00e1mi participation as a historic moment: \u201cFor the first time, only S\u00e1mi artists will be presented in a national pavilion at the Venice Biennale, and for the first time, the S\u00e1mi will be recognised as a nation in a pavilion that bears their name.\u201d<\/p><p>S\u00e1pmi is the territory spanning Finland, Norway, Russia, and Sweden traditionally inhabited by the S\u00e1mi, an Indigenous People. Sunna, Feodoroff, and Sara all come from different part of the region. Hailing from Kieksiisvaara in the Swedish part of S\u00e1pmi, Anders Sunna works with painting, graffiti, and sculpture.
