{"id":18573,"date":"2019-08-12T13:10:58","date_gmt":"2019-08-12T10:10:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fennougria.ee\/?p=8326"},"modified":"2021-04-17T14:43:50","modified_gmt":"2021-04-17T11:43:50","slug":"there-can-be-no-sustainable-development-without-indigenous-participation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fennougria.ee\/en\/there-can-be-no-sustainable-development-without-indigenous-participation\/","title":{"rendered":"There can be no sustainable development without indigenous participation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Protecting the traditional knowledge and territories of indigenous peoples means helping achieve a sustainable, hunger-free world and contributing to the fight against deforestation and climate change.<\/strong><\/p><p>For years, the importance of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lifegate.com\/tag\/indigenous-people\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">indigenous peoples<\/a>\u00a0in the fight against\u00a0<strong>deforestation<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>land degradation<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>climate change<\/strong>\u00a0was overlooked and even denied, to the detriment of the environment and the food systems on which we all depend. Thanks to the global advocacy of indigenous peoples and their organizations, this tendency is changing, though not fast enough.<\/p><p>While indigenous peoples make up less than five percent of the world\u2019s total population, they wield enormous influence over the well-being of the natural resources on which we all depend.
