{"id":46340,"date":"2021-09-30T15:44:14","date_gmt":"2021-09-30T12:44:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fennougria.ee\/events\/tmw-fenno-ugria-night\/tmw-2021-fenno-ugria-ohtu\/"},"modified":"2021-10-19T11:55:34","modified_gmt":"2021-10-19T08:55:34","slug":"tmw-2021-fenno-ugria-night","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/fennougria.ee\/en\/events\/tmw-fenno-ugria-night\/tmw-2021-fenno-ugria-night\/","title":{"rendered":"\u266b 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The TMW Fenno-Ugria Night is a unique opportunity to hear the folk music heritage of the Finno-Ugric countries, including Estonia, and through the performances of masterful musicians also present it to guests from abroad as well as the local public.<\/p><p>The Fenno-Ugria night will feature emotional&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fennougria.ee\/en\/peoples\/maris\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">East-Mari<\/a>&nbsp;folk songs, ancient&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fennougria.ee\/en\/peoples\/saami\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sami<\/a>&nbsp;yoiks, original work inspired by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fennougria.ee\/en\/peoples\/baltic-finnic-peoples\/estonians\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Estonian<\/a>&nbsp;runosongs, as well as&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fennougria.ee\/en\/peoples\/baltic-finnic-peoples\/finns\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Finnish<\/a>&nbsp;prog-folk. However, well-known and loved songs from the rich&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fennougria.ee\/en\/peoples\/hungarians\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hungarian<\/a>&nbsp;heritage will this time take on a jazz key. The showcase features&nbsp;<strong>Trepp &amp; S\u00f5brad<\/strong>&nbsp;(EE),&nbsp;<strong>Ulla Pirttij\u00e4rvi &amp; Ulda<\/strong>&nbsp;(FI),&nbsp;<strong>Nagy B\u00f6g\u00f6<\/strong>&nbsp;(EE),&nbsp;<strong>Kod\u00e1ly Spicy Jazz<\/strong>&nbsp;(HU), and&nbsp;<strong>Vimma<\/strong>&nbsp;(FI).<\/p><p>The night also represents a bridge between&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/tmw.ee\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TMW<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fennougria.ee\/en\/events\/finno-ugrian-days\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the Finno-Ugrian Days<\/a>, an event that introduces Finno-Ugric peoples, set to take place in October. Ulda<\/a> is a group founded in 2009 by&nbsp;<strong>Ulla Pirttij\u00e4rvi-L\u00e4nsman<\/strong>, one of the leading S\u00e1mi artists. They perform modern S\u00e1mi music, rooted in a S\u00e1mi vocal tradition called joik. Their performances bring out the rich and magical sound palette of the joik, accompanied mainly by acoustic instruments. The group has performed in Europe and Northern America.<\/p>\n\n<p>Ulla Pirttij\u00e4rvi &amp; Ulda has released two albums:&nbsp;<em>Ulda<\/em>&nbsp;(2012, nominated for best ethno album at the Finnish Music Awards) and&nbsp;<em>Roijk<\/em>&nbsp;(2018). Strong rhythms, emotionally loaded harmonies and minimalistic melodies inspired by old runosongs\u2019 texts describe Nagy B\u00f6g\u00f6\u2019s music. Behind the colourful sound there is an intriguing set of instruments: vocals, bagpipe, flute, double bass, drums and acoustic guitar. It\u2019s the freedom of crossing boundaries and the courage to experiment, that create the youthful symbiosis between tradition and modern times.
