Finnic languages are further divided into two groups based on their geography and language features.<\/p><h2 id=\"heading-8d613d69\">Southern group of Finnic languages<\/h2><p>This group includes Estonian, Votic and Livonian languages. According to some viewpoints this group also includes the South-Estonian language which in turn includes Seto and V\u00f5ro languages that traditionally have been considered dialects of the Estonian language.<\/p><h2 id=\"heading-88c9657b\">Northern group of Finnic languages<\/h2><p>This group includes Finnish, Izhorian, Karelian and Veps languages.<\/p><h3 id=\"heading-04ce4621\">Dialects or not?<\/h3><p>Often Livvi Karelian and Ludic Karelian are considered separate Finnic languages. In Sweden, Me\u00e4nkieli \u2013 a type of Finnish spoken in Northern Sweden \u2013 has been recognised as a minority language since 2002. Norway has also recognised since 2005 the Kven language (<em>kainun kieli<\/em>) as an official minority language, having previously considered it a dialect of Finnish.<\/p><h3 id=\"heading-826ba688\">Written languages<\/h3><p>Estonian and Finnish have the status of national languages. Of the other Finnic languages, Livonian, Veps, Karelian, Livvi Karelian and V\u00f5ro have written languages.
