The Finno-Ugric and Samoyed peoples include the following indigenous peoples: Izhorians<\/a>, Setos<\/a>, Votians<\/a>, Vepsians<\/a>, Khanty<\/a>, Mansis<\/a>, Enets<\/a>, Nenets<\/a>, Nganasans<\/a> and Selkups<\/a>.<\/pre>
That is why the 2021 theme is \u201cLeaving no one behind: Indigenous peoples and the call for a new social contract.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>
Each year, 9 August commemorates the International Day of the World\u2019s Indigenous Peoples. It is celebrated around the world and marks the date of the inaugural session of the Working Group on Indigenous Populations at the United Nations in 1982.<\/p>
As part of the commemoration, the Indigenous Peoples and Development Branch \u2013 Secretariat of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues\/DISD\/DESA is organizing a virtual event. Indigenous Peoples, Member States, UN entities, civil society, and the general public are all invited.<\/p>
The 2021 commemoration of the International Day of the World\u2019s Indigenous Peoples will focus on the theme \u201cLeaving no one behind: Indigenous peoples and the call for a new social contract\u201d <\/strong>to be held on Monday, 9 August from 9 am to 11 am (EST)<\/strong>.<\/p>
Simultaneous Interpretation in English-Spanish and vice-versa is available thanks to the Fund for the Development of the Indigenous Peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean (FILAC). <\/p>

2021 Virtual Commemoration<\/a><\/h3>

Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues will organize a virtual commemoration for speakers to disucss redesigning a new social contract for indigenous peoples, where their own forms of governance and ways of life must be respected and based on their free, prior and informed consent.<\/p>
